In partnership with Green Philly, The Woodlands, Feminist Bird Club Philly, Andrew the Arborist, Disability Pride PA, the Philadelphia M ycology Club and City Nature Challenge participants will use the app iNaturalist to explore the biodiversity of The Woodlands (an incredible green space located in West Philadelphia) all while participating in community science! Community science data collected through iNaturalist observations is key to help monitor urban biodiversity health.
Tickets available here! Donate what you can.
What is a BioBlitz?
During a set period of time at a set location, participants focus on finding and identifying as many species as they can.
How do I participate?
Please download* the app iNaturalist (it's free!) to your smart phone, create an account, and learn the basics of how to upload an observation. iNaturalist is an app that allows everyone no matter their skill level to find and identify species they come across, from an unknown plant to a cool bird!
*Please note if you do not have a smart phone, we can group up and take turns!
Why should I join?
First, it's FUN! Second, this hands-on event offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature (and others who are interested in urban wildlife) while contributing valuable data to ongoing conservation efforts! And finally, we are contributing to the 2026 City Nature Challenge where cities around the world collaborate to share observations of nature!
Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or a curious beginner, all are welcome to participate in this accessible, engaging, educational experience. Spaces are limited so RSVP to learn more about the urban wildlife in your neighborhood!
Please note: The BioBlitz will coincide with the West Craft Fest, so parking won't be available on-site. Visitors must park in the surrounding neighborhood, but The Woodlands is easily accessible by public transit, with the 40th Street Trolley Portal right across from the gates.
