An evening of new music inspired by Anandibai Joshee, a Philadelphia icon and the first South Asian woman physician!
Join us for a powerful evening of music and storytelling inspired by Anandibai Joshee—a trailblazing Philadelphia icon and the first South Asian woman to become a physician.
Featuring new music and performances by Devi Majeske, Pan V, Maya Keren, Anju, and Dwight Dunston aka Duns.
In 1883, at a time when it was rare for women to learn to read and write, much less attend university, Anandibai traveled from India to Philadelphia by herself at the age of 18 to study at the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Anandibai’s extraordinary life, resilience, defiance of societal limitations, and commitment to serving others make her a true Philadelphia icon.
Celebrate America 250 with a story you won’t hear anywhere else! Tickets available here
