Program Overview:
The GenPhilly Mentorship Program is designed to connect emerging professionals with experienced mentors in the field of aging services and whose work reaches aging populations and beyond. The program aims to enhance professional development, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen the network of individuals committed to creating an age-friendly Philadelphia.

Objectives:
Professional Development: Provide mentees with guidance and support to advance their careers in aging services.
Knowledge Exchange: Facilitate the sharing of expertise, experiences, and best practices between mentors and mentees.
Networking: Expand professional networks to include a diverse group of individuals dedicated to positive aging initiatives.

Program Structure:
Mentor-Mentee Matching: Participants are paired based on shared interests, goals, and areas of expertise.

Regular Meetings: Mentor-mentee pairs are encouraged to meet regularly, either in person or virtually, to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities.

Workshops and Events: The program offers workshops and events focused on professional development, skill-building, and current topics in aging services.
Evaluation and Feedback: Regular assessments ensure that the program meets the needs of participants and provides opportunities for continuous improvement.

Eligibility:
Mentees: GenPhilly members who are emerging professionals who work, or aspire to work, with older adults in some capacity, and are located in Philadelphia or the surrounding counties (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery).
Mentors: Experienced professionals in the field of aging services willing to share their knowledge and support the development of emerging leaders.
Both mentor and mentees need to complete the GenPhilly Mentorship Application Form to be considered, and assigned a mentorship opportunity.
Benefits:

For Mentees: Access to experienced professionals, personalized guidance, and opportunities to develop skills and knowledge in aging services.

For Mentors: The chance to give back to the community, influence the next generation of leaders, and gain fresh perspectives from emerging professionals.

How to Join GenPhilly:
Interested individuals can join GenPhilly by completing the questionnaire available on the GenPhilly webpage. Once accepted, members will receive information about participation and upcoming events.
By participating in the GenPhilly Mentorship Program, both mentors and mentees contribute to advancing the mission of fostering meaningful connections, raising awareness about aging issues, and celebrating positive aging in Philadelphia.

Content & Program Timeline:
Review this handbook for an overview on the process and expectations for the mentoring relationship: https://www.togetherplatform.com/handbook/mentee-user
Either at the event or at your first mentoring meeting, you must define the year-long commitment with your mentor/mentee. You will also outline expectations together using our form (handed out on the day of the event).

Commitment:
The GenPhilly Mentorship Program encourages a one-year time commitment as detailed in the timeline above. During this time, we suggest Mentors and Mentees commit to a minimum of meeting for a half-hour each month (or every other month, depending on schedules). We also suggest Mentors and mentees attend at least one in-person event together; these can be either GenPhilly-led events or other career advancement opportunities that the pair feels are essential to the Mentee’s professional development goals.

Bring your business cards!
Coffee and donuts will be served
